"Give thanks in all things, for it is to you the will of God in Christ Jesus” 1 Thessalonians 5:18
Dear friend,
Do you think you have today a good reason to curse God (Job: 9)? I would not like to answer this question. But I know there are many situations which lead us sometimes to doubt about God, about his goodness, his mightiness, etc. We become bitter towards ourselves and toward others. Outwardly, nothing moves. How then do we seek to be thankful to God that circumstances make us consider as a careless father about our problems and needs? Two good reasons could lead us do so:
1. To thank God in everything, is an act of faith
Jesus, when invoking God before the tomb of Lazarus he so loved, thanked God to have been already heard (John 11:41). This thanksgiving preceded the answer and proved a trust in God. Here, no supplication, just a thanksgiving. God honors such prayers. Lazarus, died and buried four days ago, came out of his tomb and lived again.
2. To thank God in everything, is an act of faith
The Spirit of God, through the writing of the Apostle Paul, recommends us this: "Give thanks in all things, for it is to you the will of God in Christ Jesus." God wants us to be thankful, not because we are in a mess, but because He is able to help us overcome, to make us live best moments. How much our impatience facing a situation doesn’t make us regret silly words that we cannot, unfortunately, gulp back! Thanking God hinders us from sinning against God. If we were able to heal on our own, we would never have visited a doctor. While we sometimes moan under the weight of certain treatments (injection, incision, surgery) trending to brutalize the caregivers, we come back to see them with a delightful look, full with acknowledgements when the pain is gone. Sometimes, depending on the nature of our problems, we need to be patient with God.
The Bible states that “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him” (Romans 8:38)
Let’s be thankful to God in everything. It is He who leads our destiny.
Good week.
